Islands and Bridges by Alicia Sparks

Islands and Bridges are metaphors we use here at Blue Sky School. Our Pedagogical Coaches are on "islands” and each of the learners is on an “island.” The coaches can build half a bridge toward the learner, but it is up to us to build the other half of the bridge to reach our coaches. The reasoning behind this metaphor is to convey that the coaches can only go so far in helping us and that we need to put some work in as well. Basically the moral to this is the learners and coaches have to work together to help learn in best ways possible.
