On Wednesday, December the 13 Blue sky school had its first learning showcase. A learning showcase is our opportunity to show our friends family and anyone else what we have learned in these first 4 months of school. It was amazing how much we have learned. Everybody had something different in there learning showcase. Some people had books, displays, songs, paintings and so much more. The learning showcase went from 1:30-6:00. It was gallery style so people walk through the school and looked at different displays. It was super fun! We all felt very proud when people came by to look at our displays and everybody did an awesome job. We can't wait until the next learning showcase where our theme will be failure. I can’t recall exactly when or how I first heard of Blue Sky School — I suspect it was through a friend who saw something on Facebook. But, I know it caught my eye in the Kanata Kourier in March, 2017. As I read the article about this new school opening up in Kanata, I liked what I read. I found the messages from the co-founders exciting. While I had dabbled in looking at alternative education for my son over the years, it had always seemed out of reach; a dream of an alternate “if only” reality. But, something propelled me to the town hall meeting on March 29, 2017, in Modern Niagara. I went alone. Nervous and preparing myself to leave disappointed. The town hall surprised me. The presentation, the ideas, the audience, and their questions. I definitely did not leave disappointed. Rather, I walked away interested in more. Over time, Shauna and I spoke and slowly that out-of-reach goal seemed to be orbiting closer to my family’s grasp. My son was getting very excited at the thought...

     As some of you may know, the open house for Blue Sky School is on Wednesday the 30th of August. From the time of me writing this, that's tomorrow. That's mind boggling. More work than you could ever imagine has gone into the planning. Every step, from making plans to executing them, has been meticulously planned by Karen Hill and Shauna Pollock. But, what's so awesome about the Blue Sky School facilities? I'm happy I asked.       First off, we have an epic place for clothes. Why am I mentioning the larger than normal closet? Because it's awesome. If you keep walking, you'll see a gender neutral washroom because we respect all gender identities or lack thereof. It's the kind of washroom that makes you appreciate the invention of the toilet.      I believe that everybody needs a passion, but what really is a passion? A passion is something that you believe in and that has some responsibility for defining you. You can have multiple passions, I do and it's a good thing if you do, because a unique combination of passions, if used to it's full potential, can create some unique and amazing results. Some examples of passions are music, animal rights, human rights, and making. How are you supposed to achieve your passion? How do you even discover your passion? These are all good questions that I will do my best to answer in the following paragraphs.      How are you supposed to achieve your passion? That's a bit of a trick question and misconception. You can't achieve your passion, your passion is what helps you to decide on what goals you have to achieve. Not everybody has the same passions and that's a good thing, to reiterate on the preceding paragraph, your passions make you who you are.  ...

     Whether you wanted it or not, it's here. The Magic Number Part 2 has arrived. In one of my previous blog posts, we talked about the number 7 and how it applies to writing elevator pitches. In my opinion and with my experience, I have discovered that there are 7 steps to successfully writing an elevator pitch and today I will write around 7 sentences about each of these 7 steps. This blog post is brought to you by the letter 49. (It's not so good the second time, is it?)       The first step is to have a topic. Topics inform your audience about what it is you will be talking about and it gives them something to expect. Your topic should be included in the first couple sentences of your pitch. Remember that the point of your elevator pitch should be to get across something that you have to offer. This will most likely either be a service, idea, or product.
